Is Film School a Great Idea?
All filmmakers, whether it is Hollywood, Indie, or Art, all have a very distinct feature who makes them different from every other film artist. Take, for example, the director Tim Burton. Anyone who have witnessed his works would detect his different style. Most directors and filmmakers have their own style, though some are not as easy to discover. Owning your own flairs and design is an aspect to be a successful filmmaker. If not, you’ll be stuck copying other’s concepts for the rest of your career. This can be the reason that film school is an excellent idea-so that you can continue to keep develop and hone your distinctive style and voice, much like Tim Burton. Is film school a wise idea? If you’re one of those people who really wants to make the move to a bigger and much more well-known film school, you could be aware of the two types of film schools: the Hollywood and the Non-Hollywood.
Obviously, Hollywood schools are usually situated in or around Hollywood itself, and usually train you for doing work in the business. You can usually find non-Hollywood schools around the US and in New York in which the greats are. These schools usually educate you film as an art, and so are regarded a medium for art rather than purely entertainment. Non-Hollywood schools are stationed in a state university and usually cost much lower. They often don’t have the equipment resources accessible that the Hollywood school would, mostly because you’re not paying them enough. Moreover, these “clicky” schools may have individuals who are pain to deal with since they’re very “stuck on” themselves. But there are also a considerable amount of smart people who are happy to assist you to too.
And there are Hollywood film schools as well. These schools get you battle-hardened and ready on a life in the Industry. These school in most cases set you back a significant amount of money. However with this cost, you’ll frequently get A+ equipment and A+ instructors. However, most schools only offer a 2 year program, however the better ones’ offer a 4+ year degree. They educate you in much the same way that the non-Hollywood school would, but the course load is usually more rigorous and hard. These schools are often very “clicky” too, but quite often, people as a whole will be easier to deal with. As a budding filmmaker, the styles that you see need to be a source of inspiration rather than a duplication. If you are behind the camera, just let your emotions flow. Shoot it as if you know it comes from your gut. You’re going to be amazed and will quickly learn for yourself whether film school is a good idea…
