Many grow up dreaming about becoming a movie director and producer. Movie making is a common passion, but the hard part is making that passion into somehing else. A good number of these soon to be directors find themselves in film schools which can be advantageous and disadvantageous at the same time. Nevertheless, film schools are not the sole option.
Actually, most look down on film schools because they do not give students the skills they need to work in the area. A film school is costly and is not all the time beneficial.
The best way to bust into the movie business is to work there, or intern, or apprentice. Production businesses do not give out contracts to students just because they have a degree from a pretty school. Most hiring is done through individuals, and in order to actually be able to work, you must have contacts in the field. A film school do not actually offer their students the important aspects they have to hold in order to be a successful director or producer in the future. In lessons, students focus on theories, concepts, and touch very little on its use. That is not an excellent groundwork for someone aiming to become a good director.
Movie studios look for individuals who possess the following: a full understanding of the industry, creativity, technology savvy, and comes recommended. Previous experiences are also taken into consideration. Sitting through classes in film schools does absolutely nothing to aid any of these things.
