Mentors as opposed to Teachers
When it comes to mentors versus teachers, the huge query is which one can help you the most. Seeing both the collegiate and apprenticeship worlds myself, I can tell you that mentors are the much more helpful ones, hands down. It took me only 2 years to learn a lot of things which can usually take five or more years if you go to college. Making this option is fairly easy for me.
Here’s the big secret about teachers: a lot of them may know what they’re talking about, but they have not actually been in the field in years. Because of this, their knowledge is all based on years passed when things were likely much different than they are today. Therefore, to keep them up-to-date teachers read books which do contain a lot of information but may still be lacking some.
I even had a personalized experience with teachers who do not teach but instead they only keep on giving you homeworks, present powerpoint presentations, and of course compute the grades. To them, I can actually say I got no source of success or really any knowledge at all. It was those kinds of teachers that got me thinking about a career in music – something outside of the norm and free from classroom life. I wanted to be taught under somebody who was actually out there working, and that is just what I got.
The battle of mentors versus teachers was a short one for me. It didn’t take long for me to see the light after I got to experience the on the job training my mentor provided. It allowed me to handle actual tools and allowed me to imagine my career in the future. The need for me to stare on pictures in books or deal with awkward situations is history. What was taking place in front of me was what has now occurred in my actual profession.
Moreover, my mentor helped connect with some people who can aid me. I met my boss and most of the individuals I am associated with through my mentor and these associates assisted me in getting some references for my job applications. I didn’t have to do anything at all but be myself and allow my mentor’s associates to lead the way.
I am glad I made the right choice with mentors versus teachers. Now, I find myself contented with what I have and I am no longer looking for anything to boost my career. The change that I need currently exists and it is simply perfect. I can only hope that others out there cease wasting time in the classroom and start living their dream in a mentorship program.
